According to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the state of California has been a leader in the United States in terms of the implementation of energy efficiency programs since the 1970s. This has led to the state’s per capita energy use remaining flat while that of the rest of the country increased by approximately 33 percent.
In 2008, the CPUC adopted the Long Term Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan as a significant step in achieving maximum energy savings across California’s major sectors and groups.
As part of this strategic plan, the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning or HVAC energy efficiency program was created. It aims to tap existing programs, marketing and education strategies, and relationships within the HVAC industry to help the market become sustainable and quality-driven.
In a residential setting, the HVAC program is geared toward ensuring that the available equipment and technology, as well as existing installation and maintenance practices, are of the highest quality. The end result would be the promotion of energy efficiency and peak load reduction in California.
There are two specific residential HVAC programs in the state:
Residential HVAC Quality Maintenance
Through the regular application of operation and maintenance activities (in relation to residential HVAC equipment) that are comprehensive and continuously improving, energy and demand savings can be realized. This particular program is a reflection of a unique aspect of the HVAC Big Bold Energy Efficiency Strategy.
Residential HVAC Quality Installation Development
This program applies to the quality installation of new residential HVAC equipment (packaged or split HVAC systems) with a rated capacity of up to 65,000 BTU/H.
Taking a proactive approach to supporting energy efficiency in your location
When selecting a company that specializes in HVAC installation, maintenance and repair services to fit your home with the technology that will make it a healthier and more comfortable space for your family, it’s essential to focus on the professionals that take statewide energy efficiency initiatives to heart. These specialists will carry only the most energy-efficient equipment and tools and offer the relevant services to ensure that your home contributes to the state’s goals of optimizing its energy resources.
This means that the trained and highly knowledgeable people you hire to install, maintain and repair your air conditioning units, furnace, air ducts and dryer vents will provide units that are engineered to suit the heating and cooling requirements of your home. This way, only the amount of energy needed to create the right climate in your property is consumed, and you get lower energy bills and a truly earth-friendly home.
